I enjoyed this book but it is definitely for Young Adults. It had a lot of build up but then it felt like the victories were to easy. I liked the characters and rooted for them.

A book about the adventures of a girl wanting to do boy things - what is there not to like? Yes, some things are quite a cliche, but still interesting and rewarding to read. Great set-up for the next book.

I have always loved this series and it was really fun to reread it. I just read the Beka Cooper books for the first time and I found her a much more compelling heroine than Alanna. I know Alanna is a child in this book but I find her…

One of my all-time favorite series! This was such a breath of fresh air to my tiny tomboy self- I must have read all four books a dozen times over when I was a kid. I adored Alana for her bravery and dedication. The adventures are still…

This is quite possibly my favourite series of all time. I first read it as a kid, and I regularly come back to it and read it again as an adult. Alanna is an awesome protagonist, who challenges the gender norms of her world by disguising…

The Song of the Lioness series is really nice. Tamora Pierce reminds us that women can take on men's roles as well as a man. This series reminds us of the roles that are "set" for each gender, and why they should be changed.

Y’all, who let me go this long without reading this series?! This series is instantly engaging and easy to read, but still complex. You’ll love Alanna from her first appearance, and only grow to love her more as the series progresses. I…

If I had read this when I was 10 or 12, I'm sure I would have given it 5 stars. At 40+, I only read it because it was a book club selection. Despite that, I enjoyed it a lot and I'll likely read the rest of the series at some…
