Really well developed characters though most of them were unlikeable most of the time. But everyone was nuanced, and I loved having a multigenerational group of narrators tell the village story. The audiobook voice actors are fantastic,…

I was a little slow "getting into this book" but I ended up really enjoying it! The characters were engaging, and it was beautifully read (as an audiobook!)

I so enjoyed this book. The characters were such a colourful lot as the British can be.

Both thrilling and sad. Some of the characters get petty yet most get involved with helping their neighbours. Lovely story! And so British!! I recommend this novel for WWII living in England.

A powerful story made even better by the use of multiple narrators and segments of choirs singing at appropriate moments.

The changes brought on by WWII forced the ladies of this town to become outstanding citizens in their own right. Beautiful story of ladies coming into their own, creating the first ladies choir in the area, and mourning their losses in…

I don’t know if I would have loved this book as much if I hadn’t listened to the audiobook, but the narrator was a complete delight.

The Chilbury Ladies’ Choir gives the women a voice -- a voice in a time when women didn't really have one. This WWII novel primarily focused on a village outside of Dover during the spring and summer months of 1940, when the Nazis began…

This is a lovely story about how society had to change when all the men headed off to WW II. A small English village is left with few men, so the Minister decides to discontinue the church choir. The women are upset and feel that the…

I am a sucker for books like this documenting how life went on in small English villages during World War II. Told from a variety of village women’s perspectives, the story shows how the “weaker” sex managed quite well on their own. Lots…

In many ways this was a delightful story, maybe a bit unrealistic, but still a good read. And who doesn't want to leave reality now and then? The characters were interesting, I enjoyed getting to know them. I do like books that tell…

Absolutely loved this novel. I would say it has been a favourite to read from our book club. Full of spirit and hope in the midst of war, where the women of the village of Chilbury come together and form a choir and in so doing form…

This is the debut novel of Jennifer Ryan. It is a treasure. Set at the beginning of World War II in a small village close to Dover. The pastor decides to disband the choir because, "you can't have a choir without men". The women, of…

I absolutely loved this book! A quick and easy read that hooks you in by page 50. Not a very complicated book but lots of different characters to keep your interest.

Historical Fiction is one of my favourite genres. It combines a good story with historical elements which add an added flare of realism to the story itself. I loved this book. I got into the story enough when a horrific plot of deceit was…

I've been reading a lot of books about WWII in the last year. Some have been better than others, but this one is right at the top of the list! A cosy little village called Chilbury is the home of women who are missing their husbands,…

Wednesday members absolutely loved this booked. It has something in it for everyone. There is humour, sadness, hope and history using music and the choir to connect everything. Sparked lots of conversation.

This was a light, enjoyable read about how the women in a small English village keep the home fires burning but without the depth (or editing!) of other WWII novels I have enjoyed this year such as The Alice Network or While Still We Live…

For fans of THE GUERNSEY LITERARY AND POTATO PEEL PIE SOCIETY is THE CHILBURY LADIES’ CHOIR. Set during the early days of WWII in a quiet English village in Kent it tells the home-front efforts of 5 memorable choir members: a middle-aged…

If you enjoy WWII stories as I do, pick up this title. It's a light, quick read taking place just after Dunkirk; told mostly through letters and diary entries.
