It had been a few years since I last read a book in the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Series, and I wondered whether the charm would still be there for me. I shouldn’t have worried. THE HOUSE OF UNEXPECTED SISTERS was the perfect antidote to all…

I don't know how he does it. McCall Smith writes story after story, an astonishing number of books. And these are cozies, a genre not known for high levels of suspense. And yet there is an undeniable suspense in these plots. You care…

Mma Ramotswe and her community of characters are as charming, intriguing as always. This book offers insight into her father's past.

I loved this book as much as all the others in the series. I hope there are more to come. I love the subtle humour and also get pictures in my mind of what the characters look like.

So much of repetitive content it was a bit difficult to keep turning pages looking for a story line or mystery. The author goes into long boring descriptions of Africa and similar situations as the preceding books in the series. There is a…

This book is sweet...and boring. Plot is surprisingly banal. Love all the books about Ramotswe but this one is not as original or intriguing. I still read it because I like chatacters and McCall Smith’s representation of Botswana.

McCall Smith's admirers (or more importantly, Mma Ramotswe's followers) will be delighted by the newest addition to the long-running Ladies' Detective Agency series - warm and human, full of surprising additions to the history and…

"Family comes in different ways, she thought: sometimes they are given to you. but sometimes you find them yourself, unexpectedly, as you go through life. This is perhaps not all that well known, but it is still true." In many ways,…

Precious Remotswe remains my favorite character and it’s not just because I’m traditional built. It’s her quiet common sense. If I ever need an escape, I turn to the No.#1 Detective Agency. This is the 18th book in the series and they…

For those of us who enjoy cozy mysteries, a strong sense of place, and mulling over why peoples' reactions to what happens to them are so very different, this is a great addition to the Ladies Number 1 Detective series. The theme seems to…

Another saccharine bon-bon from Alexander McCall Smith on the contemporary topics of wrongful dismissal, sexual orientation, philandering, and office management ... with the usual lengthy digressions on the beauty of Botswana,…
