Young H#65533;l#65533;ne St. Onge and her older sister Catherine are orphans. When King Louis XVI orders all men in New France to marry, Catherine becomes a fille du roi, one of the many young women sent to the new world as brides. H#65533;l#65533;ne will accompany her on the long sea voyage and live with her sister's new family. But Catherine dies during the grueling journey, and H#65533;l#65533;ne finds herself alone in a strange new country. New France is a far harsher place than she imagined, with bitter winters and the threat of attack from the Iroquois. Will the few friendships she has made on her long voyage enable her to survive?

This entire series is great for learning the history of our country. It's easy to forget that not so long ago young girls were sent away from France at such a young age to find fortune and, of course, a husband!

This is a great book, I read it back when I was younger,
I understood more of it now and it was great!
Very wonderful and lets you also learn about Canada.

Good book; it beautifully described the trials of the journey that the Filles Du Roi had to go through to get to Canada. Helene is a nice character and the people she encounters are beautifully described and written as well. Some parts get slow but overall, very good.
