Alaska State Trooper Sergeant Liam Campbell is the figure of law and order in the fishing village of Newenham. A string of recent successes has put Liam back on the fast track - to Anchorage. A grisly discovery of a dismembered hand leads Liam to the site of a crashed World War II Army plane - frozen precariously in a calving glacier. Stretching back more than sixty years, the case will pit Liam against his father, Colonel Charles Bradley Campbell of the United States Air Force, whose very presence makes Liam question what secrets the glacier holds - and who exactly was on that ill-fated flight . . .

The first Liam Campbell mystery is both as serious as the Kate Shugak mysteries, while being lighter and more frivolous--sometimes. The mystery he has to solve is as serious, and he's up against the might of the US Army brass, in the person of the father he can't get along with. There's interesting backstory, and the two manage to mellow a bit toward each other while solving a 50 year old problem. Liam is clearly as worthy of his own series as Kate is.
