Summary
Add a SummaryOne cruel night, Meggie's father reads aloud from a book called INKHEART-- and an evil ruler escapes the boundaries of fiction and lands in their living room. Suddenly, Meggie is smack in the middle of the kind of adventure she has only read about in books. Meggie must learn to harness the magic that has conjured this nightmare. For only she can change the course of the story that has changed her life forever.
This is INKHEART--a timeless tale about books, about imagination, about life. Dare to read it aloud.

As you can see from the start/finish dates, this one took me a while to read. Some of that was because I was busy with other things, like a family vacation. (Every time, I take a big bag of books and get no time to read.) But honestly, the main reason it took me so long was that I just wasn't that interested in the book. Meggie (who names their child Meggie?) is a whiny girl; her father is pretty darned ineffectual; Elinor is a completely clueless, rich book-bully. Dustfinger could have been so much more - a tragic figure. Most of the villains are from central casting; Basta (Enough!) and Mortola were more fun than the central villain, Capricorn. (Mortola, it turns out, is Capricorn's mother, but that information is, apparently, irrelevant.)
The best parts of the book are the ones about books - Mo repairing books, Elinor collecting books (even though she won't let Meggie touch them), Meggie reading books, Fenoglio writing them. Endpapers, and dust covers, and illustrations... As a book lover, it warmed my heart to read a book about the love of books. I just wish it had been done a little better.
Beautifully written. It is an incredible experience for a reader. You really get absorbed in the book. I suggest reading the whole inkheart trilogy all enchanting reads.
I really loved this book and the rest of the series. Cornelia Funke has a wonderful imagination and an amazing knack for words. The descriptions are exquisite. An absolutely breathtaking fanatasy, that I would recommend to adventure seekers. Especially if it is raining 😉.
Such a creative concept beautifully written and executed! It is written so well that I still enjoy it as an adult.
this is a pretty good book. I like it for one. its full of action, fantasy, and adventure. its a good book to get your nose stuck into.
Best book ever could not put it down has a great plot twist loved it 100 star rating
This was my childhood read that I would go to every so often in our school library. It was actually one of the only good books I found, sitting on the shelf, looking mysterious and full of promises. So naturally one day in elementary school, I picked it up to explore the world Inkheart opened for me. It was a great thrill up and down through plot twists and adventures, which really helped me broaden my imagination as a child. This could make an excellent read as a bedtime tale, stretched over a period of time, with thoughtful reflection.

Even though I didn't have time to finish it before it was overdue, I still loved every second of it!
