McCullough spins an engaging tale, a saga actually. She takes the reader hrough many parts of the world as main character Alexander pursues his passions for both wanderlust and mining for gold. His romantic adventures, however, are not always successful ventures. This is a multi-generational story and I enjoyed it. I do wish the author had used interesting and thoughtful mentaphors, however.
