Lots of great actors. Look for a Bob Hope and Bing Crosby cameo.

It's just OK. Definitely not as good as "Harvey."

The circus scenes are great. The story is standard melodrama. It's definitely worth a watch.

GREAT 1952 sawdust film which combines romance/drama/show biz, and at same time is almost a documentary of the end result of how travelling minstrel/vaudeville shows and rodeos evolved into the literally huge 'big top' circus travelling by train across the country, and what it took for those huge supporting crews to set up, take down, transport them, etc.
Apparently the word 'circus' goes back to Latin/Greek meaning 'circle, 'ring' - thus, 3 ring circus, etc. The film graphically illustrates how it took lots of 'sawdust' to create 'stardust' entertainment.
Includes fabulous film of big shows/acts, including lots of aerial gymnasts, animals including horses, elephants, and clowns and more.
Enjoyable romantic drama featuring Hungarian born Cornel Wilde, Betty Hutton, Charlton Heston, and others too.
I did instantly recognize the always in make up clown character as being played by Jimmy Stewart - by his voice - using my musician ears - and the spotted Bob Hope, and Bing Crosby sitting in the audience, too.
The almost metaphorical train wreck provides a dramatic ending.
Never personally actually saw a 'big top' circus - glad I watched the movie!

It switches between circus documentary/commercial and soap opera melodrama.

Greetings, one and all - If you enjoy the thrill of the circus, then you need look no further than "The Greatest Show On Earth". This colorful, Technicolor picture is a big-top package of 1950's fun and excitement.

Directed by Cecil B. DeMille - Not only is this 153-minute picture a literal star-studded, 3-ring circus of non-stop entertainment and high-flying action, but it also features a really great train wreck, to boot.

In the awards department - The Greatest Show On Earth (from 1952) won Oscars for both "Best Picture" and "Best Story".

Ladies and Gentlemen! Step right up for Cecil B. DeMille's spectacular, Technicolor, circus-show extravaganza!

Yes, folks! It's all here under the big top! We got - Inflated egos! And Thrills! And Chills! And surprises galore! And after the show's all over there's even a really swell train wreck to entertain you, that, literally, beats the band!

I have to tell ya - This film truly is "The Greatest Show On Earth". This is the best 2 hours and 30 minutes I've spent, watching a picture, in a mighty long time.

Even though it's over 60 years old, this is some of the best movie-entertainment that you're likely to come across. No matter how jaded you are, I guarantee it, you're sure to enjoy The Greatest Show On Earth.

So.... Come one! Come all!

I first discovered this movie back in the 70's when I was young and have Loved it ever since. I always look forward to watching it on Turner Classic Movies every time they show it.

Boring. Large parts of the film are actual circus performances.
