New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult is widely acclaimed for her ability to tap into the hearts and minds of real people. Now she explores what happens when a young woman's past -- a past she didn't even know she had -- catches up to her just in time to threaten her future.
Delia Hopkins has led a charmed life. Raised in rural New Hampshire by her widowed father, Andrew, she now has a young daughter, a handsome fiancé, and her own search-and-rescue bloodhound, which she uses to find missing persons. But as Delia plans her wedding, she is plagued by flashbacks of a life she can't recall. And then a policeman knocks on her door, revealing a secret that changes the world as she knows it.
In shock and confusion, Delia must sift through the truth -- even when it jeopardizes her life and the lives of those she loves. What happens when you learn you are not who you thought you were? When the people you've loved and trusted suddenly change before your eyes? When getting your deepest wish means giving up what you've always taken for granted? Vanishing Acts explores how life -- as we know it -- might not turn out the way we imagined; how doing the right thing could mean doing the wrong thing; how the memory we thought had vanished could return as a threat. Once again, Jodi Picoult handles a difficult and timely topic with understanding, insight, and compassion.

I enjoyed the different characters' points of view throughout the novel, because it created a level of realism that couldn't be achieved otherwise. Just hearing about a person's life is much less interesting than "seeing" the life through the character's own experiences. The author clearly understood her subject matter, as she presented most of it in a believable way (with the exception of the trip to the Hopi reservation).

It was interesting but too much going on in the storyline....kidnapping, pregnancy. finding long
lost mom, alcoholism, child molested , and the prison bits regarding Andrew....this book didn't
quite do it for me....enjoyed her other book MY SISTER'S KEEPER

Very few authors can create characters vivid enough for me to follow through changes in voice, but I don't have any problems remembering who's who and what happened previously in Jodi Picoult's books. Again, she addresses social issues and how all people affected feel and respond, so that you feel you understand the issue from all points of view.

Jodi Picoult never disappoints me. The themes of her stories are varied and each book is a pleasant surprise which takes the ader through many an emotion and ends in a perfect finish.

Not one of my favorite Jodi Picoult books, but still had a compelling story line and character development.

Very well written. Couldn't put the book down. Not sure if I like the ending though.

Another compelling novel by Picoult

The plot of the novel is quite mysterious and sort of scary, but the story itself is very interesting and ends happily.

Another wonderful page turner from Jodi Piccoult. It was as if I was watching a movie. Could not put it down. Jodi Piccoult has yet to disappoint her readers.

I enjoyed this book. It was well-written and the characters were well explored. I only wanted to know more about what happened to the main characters at the end of the story though.
