Certain amount of charm. But, compared to other series. It bored me.

Major Yeates -- uprooted from his home in England and sent to Ireland to act as a judge for a minor local court -- and trying offenses such as public drunkenness and horse "borrowing", soon realizes he's been tossed into an impossible situation. Pretty much all the Irish locals there, not particularly fond of the British anyway, are out to embarrass him or compromise his integrity in one way or another. Their thinking -- quite logical -- is that if they have "something" on the judge, then the judge will be more likely to see things their way should they ever come before him. On the plus side, the stories and characters are both comical and endearing. On the negative side, the accents are sometimes difficult to understand and no closed captioned are provided. Reservedly recommended.

Very entertaining series with eccentric characters and unusual plot twists. Very good acting. Captures the charm of an earlier era. I've watched it 3 times over the years and enjoyed it each time!
