A more accurate description would be "four teenage friends from working class backgrounds, recently graduated from high school, find an unlikely source of direction in the form of a collegiate bicycle race."

It's worth it just to see very young versions of actors Dennis Quaid and Daniel Stern. Sweet movie that is super for college-town viewers. A must-see!

A timeless bicycle film from 1979. This movie of summer angst has a lot of heart and real insight into ordinary people struggling in the divide of town vs ‘gown’ -- in the college town of Bloomington, Indiana.

Close to a perfect movie. Great script, interesting plot, believably presented. Pretty good acting too, from a young cast. Most viewers will relate to this universal story, about that brief time in life, the months following high school graduation, where everything seems possible. And things about life begin to change. The 'Sugar Mountain' life slowly, inexorably, dissolves. Pursuits which were at best games and hobbies before, now become obsessions. And the subsequent problems of obsessed youth follow. Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this. The characters are endearing, especially the main character Dave. A story from a different time that's for sure - a more innocent age. Lots of cycling - it probably helps if you like cycling, but worth watching for everyone - cover says it won loads of awards. Sunny.

Forgotten classic: charming coming-of-age story from the 80's about a group of blue-collar Indiana friends having to decide what comes next after High School - especially when the luxury of a college education seems financially out of reach.
