Almost nobody in North America can reasonably complain about their lot in life. Having lived in the third world as a white child i was already aware of this but the reminder is necessary and appreciated. Show this to your children!!! Next time they may think twice about begging for a new phone or game system or TV.

An essential primer for all consumers of goods of any kind. This film takes us from resource extraction, to manufacturing of goods, to shipping them, to recycling the waste and dismantling the ships. There are no political comments, the potent graphics of how we humans have changed the landscape and social justice of our world makes its own statement.

A disturbing film, chronicling the wasteland that is sometimes the result of industrial and digital activity. Better, and more honest, than Al Gore's famous doc.

I'm not sure this film says anything that hasn't said before, but it does say it beautifully. It puts forth its warning about large-scale industrialization and consumerism in a series of gorgeously composed still and moving images. In some cases, I felt like the images were so utterly complete that the commentary was superfluous. Indeed, by the end of the movie I was fairly glad Mr Burtynsky followed his photographer calling and didn't do a sideline into radio punditry or something. The movie isn't without its flaws, but if you've enjoyed wordless or near-wordless documentaries like *Baraka* or *Winged Migration,* chances are you'll enjoy this movie for many of the same reasons.

"We come from the nature and we have to understand what it is, because we are conected to it and we are part of it. (...) And if we destroy nature we destroy ourselves"
