True story of the first solo, non-stop, round-the-world boat race, and the psychological toll it took on its competitors. Sponsored by the Sunday Times of London, the much-ballyhooed event attracted a field of nine, including amateur sailor Donald Crowhurst, who set out to circumnavigate the globe in late 1968. Battling treacherous seas and his own demons, Crowhurst almost immediately comes apart as he faces the isolation of nine months on the high seas.

April 2017......Not what I expected.....but loved it. Stayed up way too late, because I couldn't stop watching. Will watch again some day.

Interesting account of an event I was not familiar. I can understand how glory and pride, long hours alone, and at sea, can cloud a man's judgement. Journals and live footage make this recounting very interesting.

It was simply not what I expected. The true story of Donald Crowhurst is deeply tragic.

It was O.K for a home TV movie. I was entertained and interesting. But it was NOT worth the long library wait or the price to rent from a Red Box. "I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.”

A GREAT docudrama !!
The first "reality journalism".
I didn't know the (true) ending beforehand, and so it both blew me away !! ,.. and also engendered deeper after-thought ! It was evin more effective because of the understated ,yet accurate, 'British' depiction of the relentless unraveling of events.
(And its especially intense for fellow sailors.)

An immensely interesting and enjoyable movie about the first solo round-the-world sailing race in 1968, focusing on the unbelievable story of a determined "weekend sailor", Donald Crowhurst.

Wow. Crazy story of belief in oneself, obligation, hubris. lies and isolation. Loads of original footage from the 60s of a race of single handed circumnavigation of the earth by sea non-stop. How media and popular pressure distorts our challenges.
