La's Orchestra Saves the Worldis another delightful story celebrating friendship and the healing power of music, told with the warmth and charm we've come to love from this favourite storyteller. It's 1939 and the war in Europe casts a long, all-encompassing shadow. In a sleepy town in Suffolk, La, the generous and determined widow, forms an amateur orchestra to entertain the locals and soothe her own broken heart. She recruits Felix, a refugee from Poland, to play the flute, and a touching friendship emerges. When the war is over and the orchestra disbands, La is left pondering her next move. What role can she play in her community now that the war is over? And can she let herself love again?

Loved it! A gentle book about a very ordinary young lady who, through difficult times, becomes a very extraordinary person. Many little life lessons here for all of us - old and young alike. Simple messages like, never give up, small and simple things have big results, lives can be touched in so many ways, or that even in troubled times we can go forward and make a difference. McCall is gifted at letting a quiet story deliver many beautiful messages. It makes one want to try harder to be a little kinder, do a little more, touch a heart or two, and do the best possible wherever you are and in whatever life hands you. These subtle messages go way beyond the musical metaphors and the sweet story in La's Orchestra.

Easy to read and interesting story about how one woman copes with being alone during WWII living just outside of London England. Shows how we all have a part to play in this world.
