Cemetery DanceLarge Print - 2009
William Smithback, a New York Times reporter, and his wife Nora Kelly, a Museum of Natural History archaeologist, are brutally attacked in their apartment on Manhattan's Upper West Side. Eyewitnesses claim, and the security camera confirms, that the assailant was their strange, sinister neighbor-a man who, by all reports, was already dead and buried weeks earlier. While Captain Laura Hayward leads the official investigation, Pendergast and Lieutenant Vincent D'Agosta undertake their own private-and decidedly unorthodox-quest for the truth. Their serpentine journey takes them to an enclave of Manhattan they never imagined could exist: a secretive, reclusive cult of Obeah and vodou which no outsiders have ever survived.

SummaryAdd a Summary
In this latest installment of the Agent Pendergast saga, zombies seem to be running amok on Manhattan Island. When Bill Smithback, a longtime friend and celebrated journalist is murdered, NYPD homicide detective D'Agosta is bent on revenge. Pendergast also appears on the case, but is careful to note the particular aspects of the crime, namely that the perpetrator caught on film performing the murder had himself died two weeks earlier. A cult located in the woods on the north part of Manhattan Island is suspected due to Smithback's expose articles on their practice of animal sacrifice, and while D'Agosta becomes intent on finding the killer at the cult compound, Pendergast wonders if there may be more than a little grain of truth in the legend of a re-animated corpse hell-bent on murder.
