Seventeen-year-old Sydney Blake's summer is shaping up to be typical for a teenager: she's spending it with her father, and she has landed a part-time job at a local hotel. One night, Syd fails to come home from her shift, and her father Tim is a bit alarmed. However, that alarm turns to full-on panic after he visits the Just Inn Time hotel and the manager claims that Syd has never worked there. Grilling his daughter's friends for clues leads Tim nowhere -- except to threats against his life -- and as he frantically chases every lead, he can't help but wonder if Syd is even still alive. Despite a growing list of unanswered questions, all Tim knows for certain is that he must continue searching for his daughter -- no matter how high the stakes become.

It's a real page turner with lots of twists and turns but I didn't like the protagonist. Tim Blake is such a solipsistic retard cuck he'd be right at home at 24 Sussex drive.

I have read everything this library carries by Linwood Barclay. He never, ever fails to disappoint me. My problem is trying to put the books down to get on with my chores and errands! If you enjoy Mr. Barclay's books, do try out Harlan Coben's books, in the same genre and tone, they are excellent, too.

Another fast paced thriller from Canadian Barclay - he never disappoints. His stories feature average people caught up in unusual circumstances that force them out of their day to day life into a fight for their life.
Here a daughter goes missing, her workplace has never heard of her, the police get nowhere and Dad gets drawn ever deeper into a complex web to find her.
No super heroes or fantastic special agents or world ending plots but ordinary people forced by circumstance to do extraordinary things.

I just completed this book and even though it was fast paced, it was rather far-fetched. Sometimes, less is more. First time reading this Canadian author and will try another of his books as I love to support our Canadian writers.

This is a very enjoyable read. Lots of plot with twists and turns until the end - also good character development. I will definitely read more by this author.

I had to read this book for book club at school, and i found it amazing. It is a really good mystery and it leaves you on the edge of your seats at each chapter. I think they should make a movie for this book, i woulddefinatly watch it. I am usually not a huge fan of mystery books but after reading this one i have read some great mysterys such as 'Then There Were None',another one is 'the next accident' I would suggest any one who likes mystery to read any of these books. Enjoy!

A little slow starting but once you you get into it there is a lot of twists. Keeps you guessing right to the end.

Tim is an average guy. He sells cars. He has and ex-wife who's moved in with a man whose moody son spends more time online than he should. Tim's girlfriend is turning out to be a bit of a flake. It's not a life without hassles, but nothing will prepare him for the nightmare that's about to begin. His daughter, Sydney, has vanished into thin air. At the hotel where she supposedly worked, no one has ever heard of her. Even her closest friends seem to be at a loss. Now, as the days pass without word, Tim must face the fact that not only is Sydney missing, but that he may not have known his daughter as well as he thought.
As he retraces Sydney's steps, Tim discovers that the suburban Connecticut town he always thought of as idyllic is anything but. What he doesn't know is that his every move is being watched. There are others who want to find Sydney as much as Tim does.
But they're not planning a welcome-home party. The closer Tim comes to the truth, the closer he comes to every parent's worst nightmare--and the kind of evil only a parent's love has a chance in hell of stopping.
