Some good storytelling, but at times there is a pedantic streak that drags the narrative down. (The portrayal of Chinese culture was particularly text-booky.)

The love story starts out well, but ends up flat. Multicultural chick-lit.

It was incredibly interesting to learn about how the social histories of Chileans, Chinese and other groups converged during the Gold Rush.

Bonnie Blair does a great job on the audio.
