Carl Fredericksen is a 78- year-old curmudgeon. He used to enjoy his modest life as a balloon seller when his adventure-loving wife Ellie was still alive. When she died, Carl was left with his memories and the awareness that they never made their dream journey to Paradise Falls in South America. When well-meaning officials consign Carl to Shady Oaks Retirement Home, he rigs thousands of helium balloons to his house and floats away. He discovers that Russell, a chubby Wilderness Explorer Scout has stowed away. In the tropical jungle, Carl and Russell find more than they bargained for. Charles Muntz is a crazed explorer whose newsreels once inspired Carl and Ellie; Kevin is an exotic bird with a weakness for chocolate; and Dug is an endearing golden retriever fitted with a voice box. More importantly, Carl and Russell discover they need each other.

Just a clash of a series of events. To make the story more meaningful it could have included more about the loving relationship between the main character and his wife. Less than a 1 star.

Odd film, some cute scenes and situations. Not my favorite Pixar film.

SPPL_Anna Mar 17, 2018

Bawl through the first five minutes and then meet the best example of a talking dog in fiction. Pixar does what they do very well.

This is an amazing film and will be enjoyed by everyone, beware though the first little bit is heart wrenching, especially if you are an adult who has experienced any of the struggles/life challenges the couple faces.

I watched this twice and every viewing gives me a different perspective of what I missed.
Be kind to the elderly is a subliminal message but has humor too; 'my name is Russell, and the dog Doug comes to greet the two & don't forget to watch the extra scene that is attached to that; I watch Up when I need to remember there is kindness in the world with all the other things in the day to day crap.

five balloon houses for bring out a positive feeling at the end of film

Carl Fredricksen: This is crazy. I finally meet my childhood hero and he's trying to kill us. What a joke.

Dug: Hey, I know a joke! A squirrel walks up to a tree and says, "I forgot to store acorns for the winter and now I am dead." Ha! It is funny because the squirrel gets dead.
