Only thing I'd add to previous comments is that it's the perfect book for slightly older little children (around grade 1-2)

I love books that amuse me while I'm reading them to my kids. This is one. I read it to my 6 and 8 year olds last night and we all loved it. Old man Fookwire vs. the squirrels. It all comes out in the end. Who knew those squirrels were clever enough to build boxkites? Loved it...please read it to your kids!

Those Darn Squirrels is an excellent book and so is the second book ; those Darn Squirrels and the cat next door. If you have not read them, stop what you are doing and get them now! They are great!

Not many people know this, but squirrels are the cleverest of all the woodland creatures. In fact, they're fuzzy little geniuses! They can make a house out of a tree, a bed out of a bunch of leaves, and a box kite out of twigs, dirt, and squirrel spit. They are also excellent at math.
