Mighty Memnon rules over nearly all the known world, who defeats his enemies in battle with the help of a beautiful sorceress. "Free tribes" form a fragile alliance to fight Memnon, and hire a trio of assassins to kill the sorceress and thus remove Memnon's advantage. The assassins are betrayed by the son of one of the tribal leaders, and Mathayus finds himself unable to kill Cassandra. Mathayus abducts the sorceress, who explains that Memnon was holding her against her will. Mathayus then uses his newfound sense of justice to convince the surviving tribal leaders to join forces again to defeat Memnon.

The assassin and the sorceress, how romantic! The Rock Dwayne Johnson's first lead role in a major film as the Akkadian Mathayus, a wandering mercenary/assassin in prehistoric Egypt, before becoming a King. Female lead is the Miss Teen USA 1985 and Miss Hawaii USA 1993 Kelly Hu (as sorceress Cassandra).

Note:
-King Scorpion, was a ruler during the Protodynastic Period of Upper Egypt (c. 3200–3000 BC).
- The Scorpion King, told in the Book of Souls, was branded by the god Anubis to be awaken once every five thousand years, leading to the "The Mummy (1999 with Brendan Fraser & Rachel Weisz)" and its sequels.
-If you like Conan the Destroyer (1984) with Schwarzenegger, give this a try.

A fun pseudo-historical epic, with good costumes, set design, and action, plus cheesy but vaguely enjoyable banter.

It was O.K for a home TV movie. I was entertained and interesting. But it was NOT worth the long library wait or the price to rent from a Red Box.

Surprisingly entertaining movie, with good action, decent sets and visuals, plus an enthusiastic cast. This is not a must see movie by any means, but it worth a watch.

From prequel The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior.

Mathayus did have a fondness for battles and killing. And though he loved Layla, the blood of a warrior and the scorpion's dark venom still coursed through his veins. It would drive him out into the wide world for further adventures and further battles until one day perhaps he would return to become the Scorpion King. That is the subject for another tale.

But the truth of the matter was Mathayus did have a fondness for battles and killing. And though he loved Layla, the blood of a warrior and the scorpion's dark venom still coursed through his veins.
