Add a CommentLearning about the Congo while reading a mystery novel was great! I thought the ending and certain characters reactions/personalities were cheesy, though I understand mystery novels are meant to be that way sometimes. Cripple was my favorite character. Now I have to read the next books to find out what happens with Amanda.
A beautiful unusual story.
The title makes you think the story is going to head in one direction, and so the plot is very fresh and unexpected. Fun, strange details about life in the Congo.
A good read.
I really enjoyed the story told here, as the author grew up in the Congo and paints a wonderful portrait of it. However, there are too many typographical errors. I lost count at 8, and I found them very distracting. This book needs a good proofreader!
There was something quite charming about this book.I hope it is the first in a series because I really want to visit some of these characters again. Interesting
I was expecting the usual hilarious prose from this author and when I started to read the book thought it wouldn't be to my taste. It is different from what I usually read but very enjoyable, very well written.
