Joseph Finder introduced Nick Heller, a "private spy" who finds out things powerful people want to keep hidden, to widespread acclaim from the critics and wild enthusiasm from the readers, in the New York Times bestselling novel Vanished . Now, in Buried Secrets , Nick Heller returns, finding himself in the middle of a life-or-death situation that's both high-profile and intensely personal.Nick has returned to his old home town of Boston to set up his own shop. There he's urgently summoned by an old family friend. Hedge fund titan Marshall Marcus desperately needs Nick's help. His teenaged daughter, Alexa, has just been kidnapped. Her abduction was clearly a sophisticated professional job, done with extraordinary precision. Alexa, whom Nick has known since she was young, is now buried alive, held prisoner in an underground crypt, a camera trained on her, her suffering streaming live over the internet. She's been left with a limited supply of food and water and, if her father doesn't meet the demands of her shadowy kidnappers, she'll die. And as Nick begins to probe, he discovers that all is not quite right with Marshall Marcus's business. He's being investigated by the FBI, he has a lot of shady investors, his fund is in danger and now he has a lot of powerful enemies who may have the motivation to go after Marcus's daughter. But to find out who's holding Alexa Marcus hostage, Nick has to find out why. Once he does, he uncovers an astonishing conspiracy that reaches far beyond anything he could have imagined. And if he's going to find Alexa in time, he will have to flush out and confront some of his deadliest opponents ever.

I liked this book very much. It was very fast paced.

Lots of twist, makes for interesting reading. Even with
the ending we all knew. this novel still had plenty of suspense.
A GOOD BOOK

There are few books that you feel compelled to read in one sitting and this is one of them. Did I read it in one sitting? No. The fact that I must earn money in order to leisurely sit around and read books prevented me from doing that. Then I caught a cold; blowing my nose every 30 seconds and draining a watery eye prevented me from finishing it in one sitting as well. But when the weekend came and I was well enough to see straight I found myself lost in the story. Some twists and turns you saw coming, but it was still fun to go along for the ride. Others came out of nowhere and the "just one more chapter and I'll put it down" mentality goes out the window.

I had the pleasure of sharing my love of this story with Mr. Finder himself via Facebook (God bless social media!) and he thanked me for my kind words.

I look forward to more 'Nick Heller' mysteries/thrillers to come in the future.

Yep, a good read. Zipped through it pretty fast.

A very well crafted action/suspense novel. Finder does a great job on this book, just as he did with "Paranoia" (also highly recommended) --- and I admit to a strong prejudice against members of the Council on Foreign Relations (which Finder is a member of).

I am told this book would make one too many holds. However, the books I have on hold are not even in the library's inventory. They are and have been on order. I have only one of of the five holds to pick up with no real time frame offered.

Perhaps a unique situation should be given a bit more thought or perhaps I am being too picky? Dale Hickey

Nick Heller, a private spy who uncovers secrets for a living, has to locate the missing daughter of a friend who has secrets of his own. Good characters and believable story. There's a lot of crazies out there!

Commercial action novel that would easily translate into a typical one hour TV action drama. I think this would appeal to guys in their late teens/early twenties.

It was okay but I thought the plot was far from believable
