Yet Pug's strange sort of magic would one day change forever the fates of two worlds. For dark beings from another world had opened a rift in the fabric of spacetime to being again the age-old battle between the forces of Order and Chaos.

First read this back in Jr. High. Was good then. Reread it in my lat 20s and I still enjoyed it. Start of a large range of books all set in the same "World". Fairly standard "Poor boy becomes super-powerful hero" theme in the first two, but branches out after that.
