A reluctant leader, Arthur wishes only to leave Britain and return to the peace and stability of Rome. Before he can, one final mission leads him and his Knights of the Round Table--Lancelot, Galahad, Bors, Tristan, and Gawain--to the conclusion that when Rome is gone, Britain will need a leader to fill the void. Britain needs a king--someone not only to defend against the current threat of invading Saxons, but to lead the isle into the new age. Under the guidance of Merlin, and the beautiful Guinevere by his side, Arthur will have to find the strength to change the course of history.

This movie has lots to recommend it: visual sweep, incredible combat sequences, an engaging, imaginative story based on the legend (Arthur as Roman soldier; Guinevere as female warrior)...but...waayyy off in the distance, somebody looses an arrow. It sails through the air, and pins a guy hiding in a tree. Whoa! That marksmanship that beats the heck out of Robin Hood! The movie lost me momentarily, there. Oh, and...

LANCELOT DIES?? Before Arthur is even made king?? The "knights" aren't the only ones who are "bold"--the screenwriter is pretty bold, too! Well, can't condemn him for played loose with the facts, when there probably are no real "facts" in a story this ancient. It's a 21st century take, too: lots of talk about "freedom," which was likely an alien concept (What did kings have back then? Serfs!)

Clive Owen is surprising good as pre-king Arthur. Supporting cast, including Ray Stevenson (Rome, Black Sails), Ray Winstone (The Departed, The Proposition), Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean) and others are all excellent.

Good entertainment. And for those who care: even more gritty battlefield realism in the Director's Cut.

My favorite version of King Arthur! Can watch it over and over.

Wanted to like it but didnt !! it has all the pieces: good actors, music etc but the direction and script make it tedious to sit through. watch Excalibur from John Boorman instead . Even if you seen it before

The characters come from the legends of King Arthur but the story is strictly Hollywood.

I found the plot very predictable and the violence was gruesome with blood splashing all over the place. Would not recommend this movie.

Disappointing. Poor character development; kitschy macho dialogue; overlong; boring. Attempting to make an emaciated teenage Keira Knightley appear menacing with blue warpaint was laughable.

Quite entertaining.

Interesting enough - totally different than what I expected. Doesn't focus on the King Arthur we know, but rather where the legend of King Arthur came from. Especially liked Keira Knightley's interpretation of Guinevere!
