My first gripe with Macbride is why he took so long to get back to the McRae series!

Thankfully, the wait has been mostly worth the visit. The story starts out well enough but it sags in the middle and gets more disappointing towards the end. But the supporting cast of characters makes up for that.

Steel is in top, whining form, and her jokes are funny but Macbride's continued use of her whinging gets a bit grating. McRae himself is not above his own whines, which is rich given how many times he has a go at Rennie...

Still, a good read filled with dark, sarcastic humour!
