I mostly skimmed this book, but I did want to mention that the book is aptly named. The author enjoys excellent bread and wine but is quick to point out that she is a woman of faith and that as a Christian, the "bread" and the "wine" are important to her as elements representing Jesus' body (communion elements, and the Crucifixion reference). I appreciated her honesty and her passion throughout this book. The recipes are personal to her and simply a part of her history and her present life.

Love this book! Read it several months ago for a women's bible study group. A spiritual read, not really biblical. It had some great insights to relationships built around a table and the great sense of community that can result. It was inspiring and I am definitely going to re-visit it once I move into my new house and need ideas for building community with new neighbors! Easy read. Liked it so much I bought another one of her books (Cold Tangerines) that I have yet to read!

Bread & Wine is so much more than food. It's about spirituality, connection and imperfection. Start where you are, the author recommends. She journey's the reader through her passion for food, her family and friends, her grief and the woman she aspires to be. It's intimate at times, almost as if the reader is right there at the table with her. She includes recipes at the end of each chapter which is great for entertaining. I enjoyed living vicariously through her so much so I read the book twice!

One of the most touching books I have ever read! So much more than just about food and entertaining, Shauna touches on spirituality, perfectionism, and so many issues that spoke to my soul as a woman. Highly recommend!

So far this book has been valuable to read. I'm almost at the end and have been motivated to be more hospitable and share my table with others. I love that she adds her recipes and have tried some with great success!

I love this book! I love how Shauna writes, and this is by far my favourite of her books. It articulates a way of life that I want to live - finding ways to feed and nourish everyone that comes through my home's door, whether spiritually, intellectually and literally. It's a beautiful ode to life spent around the table. Truly a wonderful read. (Definitely also recommend the recipes. Yum!)
