Nirvana's debut album on the Sub Pop label.
A good range of songs, from the Beatles-esque pop sound of "About a Girl" to harder tracks like "School." "Sifting" is one of my personal favorite tracks on this album.
a fact I'd like known is nirvana rehearsed down in san Francisco, for a time. they had an apartment on fillmore street, just south of fulton street. in general, it was north of haight street. they were on the third floor. one day I was walking by and heard someone doing johnny rivers' old classic, SECRET AGENT MAN. there was no vocal being sung, so I hung on a lamppost and fantasized being asked up to sing with them. I just heard them, then; another time, I met Krist, the bass player. He told a groupie, "Kurt's waiting upstairs." She got up off the floor and accompanied him upstairs. Later, I saw Kurt--without at the time recognizing him--a few blocks south of Haight, wearing a lumberjack shirt. On reflection, he looked kind of desperate, but he was shunned by me. Of course, if he'd stopped me and said anything...things might have been different. When I heard he had died, I felt sad, and wished he had, as I could have helped him with his problem (I'd gotten clean and sober across from the street corner where I saw him crossing the street). My experience: life happens so fast it is difficult to make a decision, when one needs to be making it. One is ingrained in his self-defense patterns, his 'character armor.' Eastern Mysticism seemed to offer a way out of this "self-bound" trap. but, maybe, some of us just don't have the karma, or the synchronicity, on our side, when we need it, or somebody else needs a good deed, from us. p.s. kurt was a victim of post partum depression.
