Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl star as legendary Formula One drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda respectively in this biographical drama set during the 1970s, at the peak of their heated rivalry. Both on the track and off, Hunt (Hemsworth) and Lauda (Bruhl) couldn't have been more different. Yet as much as Englishman Hunt's showy public persona clashed with Lauda's reputation for tightly-controlled perfectionism, both men remained bound together by one undeniable fact -- they were both among the best drivers ever to grace the racetrack. When a horrific crash during the 1976 Grand Prix at the Nurburgring nearly claims Lauda's life, however, a grudging respect begins to develop between the two racers as Hunt realizes just how devoted his greatest adversary is to the sport they both love.

As close to real-life as a Hollywood-type movie has ever come to portraying world-class racing and its people. Glad to see that it opened some eyes. But, also noticed that it had no positive effect on those who view motorsports with the same levels of open-mindedness, understanding and good will as that of the Taliban towards Judaism.

A very entertaining movie.

Had some misgivings at first but really turned out to be a really well done story about sport relationships. Exciting! Tortuous scenes in the hospital. Loved this movie.

The rivalry between Formula 1 drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda during the 1976 racing season is an unforgettable era and Ron Howard did an excellent job illustrating the story. Magnificent background, sceneries, costumes and décor.
It took a long time since John Frankenheimer's 1966 "Grand Prix" for Hollywood to make another film about F1 racing but it was worth the wait. Don't miss it (if you're into Formula Racing), it's a wonderful biography as well.

I love car movies (Cannonball Run, Days of Thunder, Smokey and the Bandit, Talladega Nights, Fast & the Furious) and this one has moved to the top of my list. True story about two Formula1 racers in the 1970's. Ron Howard did an amazing job with this movie. Its exciting & emotional. Loved James and Nikki's relationship throughout. A must see!

I'm not a big fan of car racing. Yet I immediately wanted to watch the movie again when it ended. And my husband and I both looked up Google to know more about the two featuring racers. Great movie for two very different great sportsmen!

I remember the incidents very well that are depicted in the movie and it is (while fictionalized in some respects) very true to the character of the two men involved. If possible I would give it 6 stars.

Interesting story based on real lives in a context that I do not know much about (Formula 1 race car competition). The rivalry between the two main characters with different mindsets/personas made it compelling. The grueling nature of the numerous scheduled races over the course of a year in different world locations shed some light on what is involved in this sport.

I hate "car" movies.
This movie is great. 5 STARS.

Note: shame to anyone who watches a 1/2 hour and then rates this movie.

Niki Lauda: Of course he didn't listen to me. For James, one world title was enough. He had proved what he needed to prove. To himself and anyone who doubted him. And two years later, he retired. When I saw him next in London, seven years later, me as a champion again, him as broadcaster, he was barefoot on a bicycle with a flat tire, still living each day like his last. When I heard he died age 45 of a heart attack, I wasn't surprised. I was just sad. People always think of us as rivals but he was among the very few I liked and even fewer that I respected. He remains the only person I envied.

Niki Lauda: Happiness is your biggest enemy. It weakens you. Puts doubts in your mind. Suddenly you have something to lose!
