"In southeast Minnesota, down on the Mississippi, a school board meeting is coming to a close. The board chairman announces that the rest of the meeting will be closed, due to personnel issues. "Issues" is correct. The proposal up for a vote before them is whether a local reporter should die. And the vote is four to one in favor. Meanwhile, not far away, Virgil Flowers is doing a favor for a friend by looking into a dognapping, which seems to be turning into something much bigger and uglier -- a team of dognappers supplying medical labs - when he gets a call from Lucas Davenport. A murdered body has been found - and the victim is a local reporter ..."--Provided by publisher.

Early into this book, I suspected I'd read it previously. An excellent mystery, I read it a second time. Hope you'll enjoy it,

Virgil is a bit too laid back to survive-a cop who leaves his gun in the glove box while on a murder investigation. Most law enforcement officers are required to qualify with a sidearm every six months or they can't carry them-makes sense to me but I guess that is literary license.

Virgil Flowers #8. Dognapping and a crooked school board keep Flowers running in this 8th entry following Lucas Davenport's sometime coworker.

Sandford himself wrote this one and returns to the high level of the first couple of Flowers books.

I do love Virgil more than Lucas
and Deadline was extremely good better than Stormfront for those of you who like Virgil try David Housewright and his Mckenzie books just has good as Virgil and after reading one see if you don't get the feeling both authors' are good friends.

my favorite flowers book! it was so good. typical funny dialogue, country-style characters i can believe are real somewhere in the world. and the best part? the very end. cant give it away, but ...nope. cant say.
if you're a virgil flowers' series fan, you best read this right quite, y'hear?

This series just keeps improving and Deadline has it all -- a great story, clever plotting, wonderful characters, suspense and moments of hilarity. Virgil's best outing yet.

Can Sandford write a boring book ?
(stupid question)
-This was absolutely one of his best ! ( And I've just re-read every one since the first. )
I really like all his characters especially Virgil.
