Add a CommentThe story of a privileged white male who was able to buy 10 acres of land and build a meditation house for himself at the age of 23 because he had the equivalent of 100k in his college savings account. Aside from spending time meditation he contributes little to society. He writes an out-of-touch, egotistical account of surrendering to his white male privilege with zero concrete tools or techniques to help others "surrender". I loved the concept but this was an obnoxious read.
Setting concrete goals and making careful plans to obtain them is the success formula that was drilled into me from a young age. Many people get great outcomes this way, but for me it just wasn't working. Through pure exhaustion, health setbacks and constantly feeling forced to act out of desperation, I was looking for some new ideas. This book was a real paradigm shift for me. I look forward to experimenting with surrender in my own life.
I'm half-way through the book and I love it! M.Singer helps to understand how surrender experiment practically works and shows how it changed his own life. Inspiring.
A very good book about not letting emotions or thoughts dictate your decision making process and surrendering to life. I'd read this again. Looking forward to reading his other book!
It's easy to overlook the underlying radical-ness of what Michael Singer is writing about here. Totally giving in, throwing yourself to the ultimate will of the universe, saying yes to everything that comes your way, regardless of the strength of the will that seeks to deny and refuse, none of these things are exactly hard-wired into our bio-blobs. Singer's style of writing is so acutely nonjudgmental, so stubbornly plain -- this is a ultimately a memoir that only wants to paint a picture of his particular example of surrendering to life, not document a rise to fame or showcase triumph over adversity. It's a startling read.
All - Inspiring!
Fascinating story of one man's life. I've only had the courage to surrender to certain circumstances (where there was no other choice) but wonder what would happen if I willingly surrendered to all circumstances as the author had... Highly recommend this book!
This book showed up just when I was ready for it. It is worth re-reading several times. I bought the book.
