The latest in the series billed as "Capucine Culinary Mystery". It fails miserably on that description.

"Culinary Mystery" appears to be an euphemism for "food-porn" where characters play a thin story unconvincingly and indulge gratuitously at every excuse. The indulgence in this case is around food. The author's alter ego (rather transparently with last two letters reversed in the name) plays the food-critic husband of Capucine and is tiresomely one-dimensional for the entire book.

It is not even good "food-porn". Just a description of the menu items and ingredients every couple of pages that will appeal to people with a food addiction (or a fetish) than to real foodies. Makes no effort to connect the readers emotionally with either the culinary experience or the characters who remain uninteresting.

It reaches such absurd levels as Capucine, upset that she had been set up to participate in a miscarriage of justice and rudely chided by her boss for protesting it, running to her husband to indulge in Champagne.

On the run with the possibility of being arrested for murder, the couple get the reader to spend more time with a description of almost every meal they have than getting out of their predicament. Moreover, the predicament resolves itself with very little contribution (let alone brilliance) from the protagonist to call it a Capucine mystery.

The author attempts to create some high-level intrigue and twists at the end which is so poorly conceived and described that it is clear that writing a tale of mystery or suspense is not his forte.

Not recommended except for those with a food fetish/addiction but want to rationalize they only read it for the plot.
