Fantastic and inspiring book. I already love my weeds, anyway, but it's great to have some info to share with others about how to use them and also be inspired by the author's love of nature. It's written in the USA, but all these weeds grow in Australia.
Katrina talks about weeds she uses herself, their latin names and varieties (very helpful), their nutritional value, medical effects, their use in history in the world. It’s an inspiring book – she talks about her annual pilgrimage walks in the mountains to refresh her spirit where she eats wild foods, her spirituality which is tied into nature and what grows..

The weeds she lists are ; Amaranth, chickweed, clover, dandelion, dock, grass, lambsquarter (fat hen and other Chenopodium album and other species) , mallow (Malva neglecta and others), mustard, plantain, purslane, thistle and knotweed, (Polygonum aviculare and related polygonums to buckwheat).

I was particularly interested in the chapter on purslane and chickweed, and how nutritious they are and that they can be used as a healing poultice and also as a soothing and healing skin lotions. Chickweed can be made into a skin healing oil that can be used any time as a normal cosmetic and also it can be made into a salve. They are both useful as groundcovers/ cover crops to keep your soil moist stop erosion. Purslane does this over summer as it dies in winter , and chickweed grows during the cooler months. They both regenerate from seeds.

I loved this book so much that I bought it. Useful information and applicable practices for my own backyard. The pictures help greatly with plant identification too.
