From the ashes of mass destruction. . . Amid the tragic unfolding mayhem of the morning of 9/11, failed Brighton businessman and ne'er-do-well Ronnie Wilson sees the chance of a lifeline: to shed his debts, disappear and reinvent himself in another country. Six years later the discovery of the skeletal remains of a woman's body in a storm drain in Brighton leads Detective Superintendent Roy Grace on an enquiry spanning the globe, and into a desperate race against time to save the life of a woman being hunted down like an animal in the streets and alleys of Brighton. Dead Man's Footsteps is the fourth novel in the multi-million copy bestselling Detective Superintendent Roy Grace series, from number one author Peter James.

What a start to the novel: "If Ronnie Wilson had known as he woke up, that in just a couple of hours he would be dead, he would have planned his day somewhat differently."
Using the events of 9/11 as a backdrop, James juggles four different plots that all come together in a very interesting, suspenseful and overall satisfying conclusion. It is a fast paced thriller as it twists and turns through various characters and years even though it is a little wordy at times. My first Peter James novel in which I especially enjoyed Roy Grace and now on to the next one.

Another great thriller by one of my favourite authors. I just can't get enough of Peter James and Detective Superintendant Roy Grace !

I found this one disappointing compared to his other books, simply not as good

This is a good read. There is a complicted plot in which all the loose ends are tied up in a most satisfactory manner. Great cast of characters at Brighton/Hove police--reminds me of the 87th precinct.
