Gabriel Allon returns in the summer's hottest thriller, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Daniel Silva.

Stretched topless upon the foredeck, drink in hand, her flawless skin baking in the sun, was the most famous woman in the world. And one deck below, preparing an appetizer of tuna tartare, cucumber, and pineapple, was the man who was going to kill her. . . .

She is an iconic member of the British Royal Family, beloved for her beauty and charitable works, resented by her former husband and his mother, the Queen of England. But when a bomb explodes aboard her holiday yacht, British intelligence turns to one man to track down her killer: legendary spy and assassin Gabriel Allon.

Gabriel's target is Eamon Quinn, a master bomb maker and mercenary of death who sells his services to the highest bidder. Quinn is an elusive man of the shadows--"a whisper in a half-lit chapel, a loose thread at the hem of a discarded garment"--but fortunately Gabriel does not pursue him alone. At his side is Christopher Keller, a British commando turned professional assassin who knows Quinn's murderous handiwork all too well.

The English Spy moves at light speed from the glamorous island of Saint Barthélemy to the mean streets of West Belfast to a cottage atop the cliffs of Cornwall that Gabriel holds dear. And though he does not realize it, he is stalking an old enemy--a cabal of evil that wants nothing more than to see him dead. Gabriel will find it necessary to oblige them, for when a man is out for vengeance, death has its distinct advantages.

Filled with breathtaking twists, The English Spy will hold readers spellbound from its riveting opening passages to its heart-stopping conclusion. It is a timely reminder that there are some men in the world who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals. And it proves once again why Daniel Silva is regarded as his generation's finest writer of international thrillers.

Too many characters to keep track of and too much detail regarding street names, vicinities, etc.

Daniel Silva’s The English Spy grabs you immediately. Though it is the 15th book in the Gabriel Allon series, do not hesitate picking up this book as your introduction to Gabariel Allon. Silva provides each character’s history and their connection to each other by illustrating incidences and stituations leaving the reader with strong visual impressions. Silva is on the same par as John le Carre- the spy riddle master.

this is a bridge for Gabriel's career to the spy head office. I enjoyed the read, wish the book was a bit longer to fill out the final revenge scenes. I agree with pw1040 below. The references to current political events makes the story line that much more gripping.

Not one of Siva's best works. The ending was disappointing.

Michael Connelly just gets better and better.

Although primarily a Harry Bosch story, Harry does interact with Mickey Haller as he moves from police detective to private detective, working for, you guessed it, Mickey.

We struggle as Harry struggles with working for the other side, his thoughts about the client's innocence as well as the development of his personal life.

A good read -- don't miss it!

I'm a big fan of Silva and his Allon and Keller characters. However, I don't think this was one of his best efforts. The book was entertaining but the plot felt unfocused and not as well thought-out as that of previous books

She is an iconic member of the British Royal Family, beloved for her beauty and charitable works, resented by her former husband and his mother, the Queen of England. When a bomb explodes aboard her holiday yacht, however, British intelligence turns to one man to track down her killer: legendary spy and assassin Gabriel Allon. Gabriel Allon is soon on the tail of Eamon Quinn, a master bomb maker and mercenary of death who sells his services to the highest bidder. Why would Quinn kill a member of the royal family, however, and draw unwanted attention to himself? Allon seeks the aid of Christopher Keller, a British commando turned professional assassin who knows Quinn's murderous handiwork all too well. The two are up against a cabal of evil with an intricate plan for revenge.

This is the best Gabriel Allon book in several outings. His previous several books seemed somewhat over the top.

With Chiara, the wife of Allon, having given birth to twins, and Allon, due to take over as chief of the Office, one wonders where this series is going next.

Silva once again comes up with another superb Gabriel Allon thriller. Many writers decline after a few books but Silva is still definitely at the top of his game.

Due to the high numbers of innocent deaths, Silva's stories have hollow conclusions for this listener. 4 of 10 stars

I enjoy a story that captures my interest from the first page, and this novel succeeds in doing so. I also enjoy learning…new terminology, words, information about various cultures and true historical events. The writing is top notch, the story is interesting, and the novel contains a great deal of insight into the Muslim culture and religion of Islam, as well as Israel and the Jewish faith. There are twists that are unforeseen, so it’s never predictable. The combination of Israeli spy/restorer of paintings of the masters is refreshingly different from other spy novels. The main character is quite unique and likeable.
