Hard to disagree with the other reviews here - 'Strangers' is a solid record that, given the long duration between MM releases, made it nearly impossible to live up to its own hype. Standouts include 'Wicked Campaign', 'The Ground Walks, With Time in a Box', and the listener-polarizing 'Pistol'.
Remember when Isaac Brock called Portlanders "turds"? I thought that was kinda funny. Modest Mouse fans must be a patient lot. After making their masterpiece, "The Moon and Antarctica," there was a 4 year gap between albums, although Brock did have his Ugly Casanova project. "Strangers to Ourselves," their sixth full-length, comes about 8 years since their last album. The problem with the long wait is that it builds expectations. "Strangers" is good, but doesn't break any new ground and is about 2-3 songs too long. Let's hope we don't have to wait another 8 years.
Indeed Isaac Brock does it again! This isn't legendary Modest Mouse but it's good.
