Funny! Lives up to the cover description of a rollicking good time, as a family in disarray road trips to Scotland for their grandfather's 75th birthday, excellently played by Billy Connolly in both a kindly and cantankerous manner. The three children excel in navigating the family tensions; there's a beach scene where they must pull together and manage a sad scenario. Hilarious questioning of what a wired, smart home is, and the best pumpkin throwing scene ever. The beautiful coast of Scotland is the scenic background.

Family dramedy that may play better on television than in a theatre. A patriarch is dying of cancer (he looks completely fine, but he has movie cancer, see) and the grandchildren can't be told yet, because reasons. The marriage of one of the sons is breaking up, but the patriarch can't be told, because I don't know why. He's Billy Connolly, after all, playing more or less Billy Connolly; it's not like he's going to die of shock. The kids are of course precocious, and allowed to say and do what they please, because their parents are flummoxed. It's nice to see Billy, David Tennant, and Rosamund Pike acting together, and there are a few true, unselfconscious moments, but not enough to overcome the mechanical script. If you like family humour you may like it, but I turned it off half-way through. Oh, and though I smiled a couple times, I didn't laugh once -- that was a factor.

This movie is unexpectedly full of wisdom and will certainly catch you off-guard if you don't know anything about the plot. The younger cast members do an exceptional job and it carries the film.

Mom, dad and kids take a vacation in Scotland. Mom and dad aren't getting along well and have told the kids it's a secret. But as we know, kids and secrets just don't go together well.

It was a bit more depressing than I was hoping for lol, as it looks super lighthearted on the cover. Overall still an okay movie, but not a good date night movie.

I was highly skeptical after reading earlier comments, but took a flyer on this one. Turns out to be one of the best family movies I've seen in years. It took a few minutes to begin to embrace the storyline, but when they got to Scotland and the grandfather, the entire story began to meld together. Humor, drama, and emotions play a huge role in this story. Highly recommended for the entire family.

Don't mind the title or the cover, just go ahead and watch the movie. You'll be surprised!

This movie caught my eye because it stars David Tennant, a favourite of mine. I found it to be a lovely movie that drew me up in the story and kept my interest right through, with some laughs along the way as well as poignancy. Good acting, and you really can't beat the stunning visuals of the Scottish Highlands and coast. There is an interesting cast and contrast of characters, with the children and the dying grandfather at its centre.

Not sure exactly what I expected, but was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the story. A comedy, no, but lighter moments, yes, especially with the children as they deal with their wise and not-so-easily-fooled grandfather. A delightful story of life.

interesting comedy engaging the subjects of infidelity, divorce, death, materialism, family loyalty and living well. worth the watch especially if you like Scotland.
