The police DNA test everything in the car and then don't do a simple ballistic test on the suspect they send to prison. What a bunch of idiots.

Excellent, every page a treat. I was worried that author Lovesay might be getting tired when his 14th in the series, The Stone Wife, was a bit off. Wrong, you can't do better than this series.

This was a great read; well written with a good ending and, several times, the writing just made you smile even with it being a murder mystery, I will definitely be reading more from this author as this was my first one.

I have just discovered this author. His books seem to be stand alone murder mysteries set in small town Britain. The author has a quirky sense of humour and his characters are interesting and quite human. The office tensions in the police force and the small cover-ups give the story an unusual backdrop. I found the lesbian angle a bit contrived but well handled and again that quirky twist that keeps me coming back for more by this author.

About two weeks ago, I discovered Peter Lovesey. "Down Among the Dead Men" is my second venture into Lovesey's works.
It does not disappoint. It virtually reads itself. Fast. A British setting, of course. Who did it? Not whom you expect it.
