I always enjoy rooting for Bertie. He was quite freed of his horrible mother in this one. The other characters kind of took a back seat this go-round.

Bertie is seven now and has a grandma. Matthew and Elspeth discover a secret room in their new house. Bruce continues to be Bruce. Silly and fun, with some good commentary about hand sanitizer.

44 Scotland Street just keeps getting better and better. I love this series.

When I read a book, I either want it to entertain me, or take me somewhere new. Fates and Furies seemed to sit like a rock on my Kindle. It didn’t entertain me and the place it took me was not a place I wanted to go. This was a book I trudged through because I saw it on a number of lists. Maybe it’s aimed not at some retired reader, but a younger person who is still creating their life. I kept wanting to say “GROW UP.” Enough with the sex and the non-responsibility. The book was character driven but I could not create empathy for any of the characters except Aunt Susie. She seemed real and grounded in this world of wealth.

Made me laugh out loud! More entertaining than is decent!

Amazing, complex characters. Love this series.

What I enjoyed most about this instalment was Bertie finally having some of his dearest wishes granted and being free of his truly awful mother.
