It starts on a summer evening, with the kind of magic found only in Paris. Selected by secret invitation, the guests arrive dressed in white, with tables and chairs, white linens, flowers, fine china, sparkling crystal, and an elegant dinner. As the sun sets, thousands of candles are lit. And when the night is over, hundreds of white paper lanterns, each with a flame within, bearing everyone's fervent wishes, are released into the sky. Amid this wondrous White Dinner, a group of close friends stands at the cusp of change.

Spanning the globe, this breathtaking novel follows these indelible characters through a transformative year of successes and heartbreaks until the next White Dinner. I really enjoyed this book and was surprised to see my son-in-law's last name in the book-Sevigny. He is French Canadian.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
An easy fun read. Maybe the women really enjoy cooking; each to his own.

I really liked this book. There were a lot of characters and not all of them were likable but the story was great and as always there was a happily ever after. This was a classic Danielle Steel novel.

I have to say this is the first Danielle Steel book that I have had to force myself to finish. It was almost like it was written by someone other than the author. Characters had not much depth and too much travelogue info.

This book made me wonder if I'd OD'd on Danielle Steel. The book starts with an improbable magical annual dinner and deals with a whole year in the lives of three couples till the next year's annual magical dinner. The book has a lot of gender stereotyping too. For example after Chantal's big dinner, which she cooked, the women clean the kitshen while the men play video games. I'd say I stuck with it only because I don't like to read part of a book and give up. All that I can say in its favour is that it's an easy read.

Magic was intriguing, fun and keeps your interest to the last page. It has a surprise ending you don't expect. Loved it!!!
