I think I expected too much. The only good artwork was Fabok's, and there seemed to be too much going on in the actual story.

Perhaps I've been a victim of my own expectations, but after Snyder's excellent Court of Owls, etc., I was expecting a tightly-focused plot centred on Bats, his main adversary Falcone, and maybe Jim Gordon.

Nope.

Don't get me wrong, when this collection was on, it was ON, as in when Gordon is in the Big House or the bloviating of "Commissioner" Forbes, but the supernatural takeover stuff in Arkham (seriously, has any institution, ever, had such obvious need for better oversight?), the Brazil and Hong Kong interludes, the introduction of not one but two neophyte teenage girl vigilantes...I was so ready for it to be done.

Crossovers and tie-ins and continuity problems. Sigh. Well, I guess comics haven't changed that much since the '90s, after all!

The first volume of a weekly series event for the Dark Knight and his world. This revolves around gang warfare in Gotham, the framing of a major character for a tragedy, and dark conspiracies. The story plays out well, and the art is mostly consistent, a difficult prospect when one has multiple artists working on the story.

Great Storyline although I expected more from the Artwork.
