"In this spirited sequel to the acclaimed The Rook, Myfanwy Thomas returns to clinch an alliance between deadly rivals and avert epic -- and slimy -- supernatural war. When secret organizations are forced to merge after years of enmity and bloodshed, only one person has the fearsome powers---and the bureaucratic finesse---to get the job done. Facing her greatest challenge yet, Rook Myfanwy Thomas must broker a deal between two bitter adversaries: The Checquy---the centuries-old covert British organization that protects society from supernatural threats, and ... The Grafters---a centuries-old supernatural threat. But as bizarre attacks sweep London, threatening to sabotage negotiations, old hatreds flare. Surrounded by spies, only the Rook and two women who absolutely hate each other, can seek out the culprits before they trigger a devastating otherworldly war."--

The Rook is better. However, this is still a fun book. I hope there will be more (next stop America...the Croatoan?)

I loved The Rook!! This sequel was a weak follow up. The characters and the storylines overlapping and so overwritten. I couldn't finish it.

I love the world and the powers that come with it and enjoyed the stepping away from Myfanny Thomas' perspective. It's quite easy to see that this will not be the end of the series with the loose ends at the end of the book.

This is a sequel to The Rook (so this book will definitely make more sense if you read The Rook first). I had been wondering if this book would be as enjoyable as the first one, and when I picked it up and noted how big it was, I was a little concerned. However, from the very first chapter forward, I was hooked and enjoying myself immensely. I enjoy O'Malley's snarky sense of humor and dry wit, and how he writes things like, "Joe, meanwhile, had been so absorbed by the Curious Incident of the Sporadically Vaporous Asian Woman in the Alleyway that he's missed his friend's discommoding behind him." I snickered to myself a few times, and found that I was frequently surprised by the story (which is nice, because I wasn't always able to predict what was going to happen).

I thought this was a fun book. My only issue with it was that it was overly long winded in parts. A good 100 pages or so could have been cut without impacting anything. Overall though, I'd recommend this book for a fun airplane/beach read.

I loved The Rook and have been waiting impatiently for the sequel and it didn't let me down. This book is told in 3 point of views instead of the previous book's 1 but it works as you need the information that each person gives you. It has all the fun and craziness of the first book in a story that forces enemies together to solve the threat to their newfound peace.

I love love love The Rook, and I've been waiting for this sequel. Happily, the wait was worth it. I'm a big fan of action packed stories that focus so strongly on women. Odette and Felicity are just as enjoyable to read as Myfanwy and Shantay from the first book, and all four are distinct, well-rounded individual characters. Add in a mix of sly wit and humor with gross sci-fi elements and you have my perfect summer read.

A beautifully written, atmospheric, twisty little novel about the secret monsters inside all of us, and what happens if we choose to let them go. Describing this novel as "ghostly" physiological thriller is a perfect way to capture the little bit of supernatural the book contains, and which sets what could be just another tale of mean girls apart. You will need to play close attention as you read.
