CAUTION: Viewers are warned that this film contains images and sounds of people who are now deceased. The Darling River Kids are Aboriginal teenagers in the small town of Wilcannia, Western NSW. For them the state school education is often inappropriate and they are unlikely to find work when they finish. To help their self-confidence and to maintain Barkandji traditions and culture, Aboriginal Sites Officer Badger Bates and community elders take the kids on a 2000 kilometre expedition exploring and explaining their country's special places - bush (Mootwingee National Park), desert (pre-eminent ancient archeological site Lake Mungo) and 'Weinteriga', a sheep station recently purchased by the area Land Councils to provide jobs, income and community help. The young people respond with fascination and pride. This observational film reveals much about how the Darling River Kids see and feel about their lives.
