The four programs making up The Office provide a unique opportunity to observe the staff of a busy office dealing with a range of everyday office activities. They are seen making phone calls, arranging meetings, briefing members of a team, discussing a new project and planning it and, all the time, demonstrating their interpersonal skills and competencies. The programs tell one continuing story - the story of organising the production of The office. Each program concentrates on a major aspect of the planning process as the pace quickens towards the first day of filming. This program, the brief, is about the early preparations. People need to know who will be involved, what is the timescale, what needs to be done and who will do it. At the same time, the other routines of the office must carry on.
