Classic " Spaghetti Western " by Sergio Leone and starring Clint Eastwood. People have correctly pointed out that this film was based on Kurosawa's " Yojimbo ", what they neglect to mention is that " Yojimbo " was based on Dashiell Hammett's " Red Harvest ".

If you're gonna stop him, then don't forget to shoot for the heart. Easily one of the most memorable endings in film history.

Clint Eastwood is a boss. This trilogy is my favorite Western other than "The Unforgiven"

Dollars is a interesting movie. Not just the first film of the Dollars Trilogy which includes The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, but also Sergio Leone’s first western. It’s a unofficial remake or at least heavily inspired by Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo. I’m sorry to state that I haven’t seen the great film Yojimbo, so I will not be making comparisons.

the Characters:
The main character is the man with no name, the title was actually made up by the U.S.A marketing team. A iconic figure who started with unpromising beginnings, with many drafts and a script calling him Ray, Clint Eastwood the actor finally was the one to make him the silent, cocky bastard we all know and love. Practically coming out of the ether yet still interesting, clever and good with a gun, the man who can’t fill in a name tag lives up to his non-existent name. I like him more in this movie than in his other appearances because he is more polite, which adds to him being cocky. The supporting cast includes a Bellringer, an Innkeeper, and a Coffinmaker who are the man with no name’s (I’m calling him Ray now) friends who explain the setting for Ray and us. The only other support people are the holy family who have fallen on hard times and are the movie’s only moral problem. They are helped by Ray showing us his morality. The bad guys are the gang called the Rojo led by Ramon. Wild, moody, talkative and almost sadistic, they’re great foils for Ray as well as good villains.

the Plot:
Ray comes to a town ruled by two gangs. One of them is the Rojo. Ray gets in the gangs’ war, but in the end destroys both gangs. Now this might seem boring but with colorful characters and good directing,it’s great. The only bad thing is that a few of the scenes feel dated and pointless, especially the opening scene.

Overall I think it’s pretty good. When you want to see a western, pick it up.

Lots of fightin' 'n' shootin' 'n' punchin'. Not an awful lot of logic. No one capable of establishing a major gang (even if of thugs) is going to build a headquarters with only one exit. Nobody seriously wanting to win a fight is only going to attack from the front. And where did the dollars go? Not to mention the gold. But, hey, it's a western ...

Joe: When a man with .45 meets a man with a rifle, you said, the man with a pistol's a dead man. Let's see if that's true. Go ahead, load up and shoot.

This is the way I want to remember Clint. Not some old man babbling to a chair with nobody sitting in it.
