I got this from my local library, after a CT scan revealed some serious inflammation (and scarring) around my digestive organs. What I needed was a comprehensive, no-hype approach to what causes inflammation and what battles it (and why). This book gave me exactly that. Her sense of humor was awkward to me, although she's going for a conversational tone. But the data is good- a lot of science and specifics to back up her statements, and a realistic, non "fad nutritionalist" approach to all foods.

I learned quite a bit in here, which is saying something because I've been on doctor-mandated diets for my health of every stripe and spot- and always done my research on those. So I think anyone and everyone can learn something from the book. I also appreciate that she has a handful of recipes, and she empowers the reader to make smart decisions (or follow a recipe regimen, if they enjoy that sort of thing). While I don't feel like I have major shifts to make, her plant-based, whole foods approach has challenged me to eat fish twice a week, only have red meat 1-2 times per week, and get more legumes into everything we eat (with helpful tips like cutting meatloaf with lentils).

I definitely recommend this book for those interested in nutrition, concerned about inflammation, or just looking to make a change in their eating habits- a change that doesn't have to be drastic in any way.

I became interested in this book after watching the Urban Vegetarian on Gusto TV. I have been somewhat interested in anti-inflammatory diets, though not committed. I started reading this book and, combined with my health problems, I became inspired. I didn't finish the book before returning it: I just knew I couldn't take enough notes and went out to buy the book. Is there a better endorsement than "I went out and bought it?" Once I had my own copy, I returned the library's copy. I know the next person on the hold list will probably want it quickly.
