David Sedaris plays in the snow with his sisters. He goes on vacation with his family. He gets a job selling drinks. He attends his brother's wedding. He mops his sister's floor. He gives directions to a lost traveler. He eats a hamburger. He has his blood sugar tested. It all sounds so normal, doesn't it? In his newest collection of essays, David Sedaris lifts the corner of ordinary life, revealing the absurdity teeming below its surface. His world is alive with obscure desires and hidden motives -- a world where forgiveness is automatic and an argument can be the highest form of love. Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim is another unforgettable collection from one of the wittiest and most original writers at work today.

I'm not sure if he was feeling well when he wrote this...

I'd been encouraged to read David Sedaris for awhile now, and finally had the chance to read this book during one of my many plane flights lately (or as I like to call them: extended camping trips in various airports).

His family could be anyone's family. And the list of what other cultures say for a rooster is hysterical. Plus Dutch Christmas traditions. I'm a fan of random knowledge.

An extremely disappointing book. The reviews in the front of the book all talked about how hilarious it is. I didn't find any humor in it at all.

After Sedaris's recent speaking engagement, all of my co-workers were talking about him and I had to go revisit this book because there were no copies of his latest book (Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk) available. Much of what makes him funny is his brutally honest depictions of awkward, embarassing or otherwise bizarre situations. Knowing what his voice and speaking cadence sound like also make reading his stories funnier.

About a dysfunctional family, maybe his? Entertaining read.

Sedaris'' latest collection of essays seems to focus more on his family members and their histories and foibles than previous works. Overall, I was a bit disappointed, but perhaps that is because ME TALK PRETTY ONE DAY, Sedaris'' previous book, was *so* entertaining. I found the family stories less interesting than the personal essays -- Six to eight black men is a shining star in this collection. But Sedaris on a bad day is wittier and more entertaining than many other authors at their best.
