Disguised as a boy, Alanna of Trebond becomes a squire -- to none other than the prince of the realm. But Prince Jonathan is much more to Alanna; he is her ally, her best friend, and one of the few who knows that she's really a girl. Now it will take all of Alanna's awesome skill, strength, and growing magical powers to protect him from the mysterious evil sorcerer who is bent on his destruction--and hers!
Here continues the story of Alanna, a young woman bound for glory who is willing to fight against enormous odds for what she believes in.
Loved pretty much everything about it except the time gaps and the sex (not the development itself but the way it was handled), which I feel should've been a bigger deal for Alanna's POV especially since she spent so much time stressing over it.
I'm seeing a few concerns about how Alanna is a special snowflake, and how only she was special enough to suspect the Duke, and how it was nbd when she identified herself as a girl. But here's the thing, of course, she's a special snowflake! That's how Pierce's books are. Read her other series, and it's exactly the same. Also, the series are hella old, so the writing style then for YA may be different for the how it is now. Just putting it out there.
