Desmond Pucket is a monster guru. He refers to himself as the Professor of Fright-ology, with a Masters in Monsters. His dream is to someday create the most awesome and scariest amusement park haunted house rides on the planet. Desmond loves to make his own scary monster effects, just ask his mother. He wears on her nerves, and gets himself into sticky situations. If you are wondering how this tribute to monsterland started, it was when he was seven and wasn't tall enough to ride the Mountain Full of Monsters ride at Crabshell Amusement Pier. Desmond has a chance to really do it this time, with his 6th grade class. But, there is a chance he could miss out again. At school, Desmond's monster antics are getting him into trouble on a regular basis. He put a goblin in the toilet in the teachers lounge and scared the wig off of a teacher. And then, there was the bloody cakes incident in Home Ec. Oh, and there were the giant motorized worms in the Cafetorium, which he was never really caught, but almost. At Cloverfield Junior High there is no room for shenanigans and the school has Mr. Needles, of the disciplinary office, to make sure of it. Desmond is going to have to clean up his act or be defeated by his own monsters and shenanigans, or will he?

This humorous character is great for any middle grade reader. If you have trouble getting your boys to read they will love Desmond. His story looks like a comic book but reads more like a diary, with notes and sketches to get readers right inside Desmond's head. Kids, parents and teachers should be sure to visit the website for ghoulish recipes, games and activities and teaching guides which make for a great tool in the classroom or at home.
