Tolstoy could have written: "All happy families are all alike--no one writes books about them." The Quinn family is coming apart, even as Christmas approaches. Kelley Quinn has already been divorced once and it looks like he's heading for divorce number two. Kelle's four grown children also have their problems, small and large. The family, including Kelley's former wife, Margaret, gather around to support each other in their time of need.
I've never read a Christmas novel, so I can't say for sure, but I suspect this is not a traditional one. Hilderbrand draws the reader in with well-developed characters, interesting dilemmas, and the setting on charming Nantucket Island. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and have already checked out Winter Stroll, the second book in this series, so I can spend more time in the company of the Quinn family.
This was a fun read for the holidays. Enjoyed the many story lines going on with the family members and some of the humorous situations. It is the beginning of a series, so it ends with a cliffhanger. Will save the second one for next year and find out what happens.
There are almost too many characters to keep track of, but the drama will keep you reading.
An enjoyable read, that leaves you hanging and wanting more.
I loved this book - the first in the trilogy. The characters come alive from the beginning - a great read!
I read the third book in this trilogy before reading this first one. I must say however that this did not detract from the story in any way. Although I knew what would happen I enjoyed reading the novel as the characters 'spoke to me.' A good start to a very good trilogy.
This is the first time I've read anything written by Elin Hilderbrand. It was not the typical magical Christmas story you would expect. The whole family was in crisis with one problem or another. It was an OK quick read.
2/1 - This book isn't giving me the same kind of feeling as any of the previous Christmas books I've read over the past month. There is drama galore, and it's not ridiculous drama that is so dramatic it's funny, it's depressing drama that would be killing my Christmas spirit if it was still before Christmas. Cheating spouses, the success of Christmas dinner in doubt, and the tragic loss of a family member on Christmas day all add up to a book that definitely does not resemble any happy Christmas book I've ever read before. To be continued...
3/1 - Alright, I read another 11 pages but that's it. I'm done with this 'Christmas' book that's making me depressed instead of happy. DNFed after 105 pages.
a well written good story especially around Christmas time.
This book was a charming & sweet read. It isn't deep but it has a bit of magic in it & it is light but readable.
