This film has a very interesting take on the “classic ghost stories” that we all know and love. The ghost character is very humanized as he watches the woman he loves move on with her life as he spies from the afterlife. The film is definitely more of a dramatic fantasy film that it is a horror story, and the performances are not too bad either. For a low budget movie, the scenes were still very well done. I found the movie to be somewhat slow paced at times and easy to leave and come back to, however, the film was generally creative and had an interesting theme to it. I would rate this movie 3.5/5 stars. @The_Reviewer of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

a very stupid cheaply made unwatchable movie. We didn't finish it, though I was curious enough to check it out on Wikipedia to see what happened next. It just got worse.
No acting was detected. Casey Affleck mostly just stands there, covered with a sheet - you could easily replace him with a coat rack ( which I guess they did - it's cheaper that way). Rooney Mara walks around with the same expressionless boring face no matter what happens in the movie. Actors do not bother opening their mouths to talk - just mumble. I don't know whether it is a fashionable way of talking nowadays or they behaved that way because they thought they were underpaid.

Didn't hate it, but watched with my finger on the FF button all the way through, and will never watch it again. It did make me think about the land we live on, upon which many people lived before. Other than that, there were only a couple of scenes that kept me watching. The other ghost next door waving and waiting for someone to return, and at the end, there are 2 ghosts in the house, which made me think there was one already there when the young couple lived in it. So Casey's character became a second inhabitant? You figure it out.

This is one movie that tries to be an art film, but, fails ridiculously.
I feel sorry for the actors who agreed to take part in this.
The problem is the director is trying to make a statement, yes, but, he fails miserably.
You cannot understand it easily or even at all. There is no overriding main point in it. Maybe there is nothing to understand. Inexorably slow with no revelations at any point.
Misses the mark on every side.

A gorgeous and haunting (pun unavoidable) poem of a film. I feel like this is the answer to the question, "What does a director do, I mean really?" Every filmmaking choice made in this film has weight, and the result is a wonderfully original film.

Thanks to comments about slowness of the movie, I was prepared. It was very slow (like real time unfolding) but I'm glad I stayed with it. I thought that the actual storyline was great and found the ghost's perspective of time to be fascinating. Highly recommend, if you can stick with the slowness.

Why was this movie even made? It was painfully dull and boring. Nothing remarkable about it at all. Save yourself the agony and do not watch it!

Those who are put off by the unquestionably s-l-o-w initial development ultimately miss the movie. That is not a strong recommendation, but there is an overall design which may appeal to someone who appreciates the unconventional.

I don't know, I kinda liked it. Based on some of the previous reviews (especially BiffBlack, 3 below, whose rhetoric and bile is almost Trumpian), you'd think this movie knocked up their sister and killed their dog. Writer/director David Lowrey (not the guy from Cracker/Camper Van Beethoven) and actors Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck come back together after their period crime drama, "Ain't Them Bodies Saints," which had a distinctly Malick tone and feel. In this film, Affleck and Mara play a couple, Affleck dies, comes back as a ghost. If you're looking for plot and action, well, you've been warned. It is slow and a bit baffling, but it also does something different with the ghost story and has a melancholy lyricism that stuck with me. Even if you're bored with it, I'm not sure how you can hate it with the vitriol that the perpetually apoplectic BiffBlack does. If Malick's "Balands" felt like the inspiration for "Bodies," his more abstract and metaphysical "Tree of Life" feels like an influence here.

there is literally a 5 minute and 15 second scene where you watch a woman eat a pie in silence. this is not a joke.
